The internet is great place to buy and sell anything, but there are some risks that you must be aware of. Common sense goes a long way, so be sure to pay attention. Also trust your instincts, if something seems strange, you might just be right. Here are some common red-flags and things to look out for:

  • Too Good to be True - If a potential buyer or the price of an RV seems too good to be true it probably is. Also, be weary of buyers who offer to pay more than asking price. While this may happen in a legitimate transaction for what ever reason, it is usually a red-flag.

  • International Buyers/Sellers - Buying and Selling internationally is possible, but it is very expensive to ship an RV, and there is a lot of paperwork involved with importing one too.

  • Look For Clues in the Ad - We try to moderate the listings to the best of our ability, but inevitably a listing can slip through the cracks. If the information looks wrong, there are numerous spelling errors, or information in the wrong place be mindful this could be signs of a scammer.

  • Phishing Scams - We will never ask you to provide your account information for any reason. Be aware of receiving an email or text message asking you to provide your account login information by going to a website or emailing it. These phishing requests can seem legitimate, but please don't provide login information to anyone.

  • Verification Code Scams - Be aware of receiving an email or text message from a person asking you to receive a code via text message and then give them the code. Our system requires verification of a phone number to place an ad, and this person is using your phone to get the code and verify their fake account so they can place a scam ad. Please don't provide them with the code.

  • Western Union or Money Gram Payments - Usually it's not a good idea to send money to people you don't know via Western Union or similar companies. If someone wants to conduct a transaction using Western Union be careful.

  • Cashiers Check Payments - Cashiers checks are normally alright to buy RVs with, but cash is best when possible. Buyers not willing to pay in cash may be scamming you with fraudulent cashiers checks or money orders.

  • Pressuring - If a buyer is trying to rush you or seems too pushy, they may just be trying to get your money before you realize the transaction is fraudulent.

These are just some of the scams we know about, unfortunately scammers are always figuring out new ways to scam. If something doesn't feel right don't do it or investigate further before making a decision. If you have any questions you can email us at info@rvpostings.com
